The First Kim Chee Casserole Contest!

Okay, folks, it's finally time for the very first Kim Chee Casserole contest! It's just my way of showing you delightful readers how much I appreciate your continued support. It's been a great first month, with hopefully many more to come!

That's right, folks. One lucky winner will win this starter set that includes one Kuhn Rikon paring knife, one Totally Bamboo cutting board, and a pretty plaid hand towel by Primitive Artisan!

These Kuhn Rikon knives are amazing. They're super sharp and come in equally sharp colors (the winner will get to choose between lime green and black.) And, if you're anything like me, you can always use more cutting boards and kitchen towels.

Here's how you can enter the contest. Become a follower of the blog (instructions are here). Then leave an answer to this question below in the comments section.

Question: What has been your favorite recipe posted on Kim Chee Casserole so far?

A winner will be chosen at random to win this month's awesome prize. Remember, even international readers are eligable to enter! The contest will close at noon CST on Sunday, August 29. Good luck!

  2. Hey Mar,

It's probably not a terrible surprise but my favorite so far has been your "Fancy Fanned Ratatouille."

It's such a well-known, familial, childhood-recalling, comfort food for everyone here. It's kind of like how "mom's spaghetti" is for me in America; every one knows what "mom's spaghetti" is, but every one's version of it is completely different. That's the same for this meal. There's really no way to do it wrong and it appeases everyone (for meat lovers, I've paired this with blood sausage, or 'boudin', on the side).

My favorite part: it also captures the quintessential essence of French cuisine. Simple ingredients, simply. Fresh vegetables; fresh herbs; and in your mind, you start devouring it before you even get to take the first bite. The smells are almost indescribable. The acidic sweetness of the tomatoes, the pungent odor of garlic, the freshness of all the vegetables... I'm already salivating.

This is one of my favorite recipes to make alongside someone as well, especially someone who doesn't think they can cook. After a few minutes together chopping the vegetables and putting it all together, even the minimal amount of work this takes will make anyone feel accomplished once they have savored the end result.

Any time I'm cooking something and I don't know what I want to do, how it's going to turn out, etc, I repeat to myself: "if it's not easy, you're doing something wrong." I've never found more truth in that statement for a meal than with ratatouille.

  5. I probably shouldn't admit this but I'm enthralled by the idea of using duck fat. I bet it's up there with pork belly and bacon grease. Yum! Can't wait to pick some up... Maybe I should just skip it and go the gym instead ;).
