Holiday Gift Idea/Giveaway #5: Rescue Chocolate

Okay, I know I promised a recipe that used the leftovers from Easiest Ham Ever, but that will have to wait until Friday. There are too many great gifts, and not enough weekends in the month! So here's a bonus gift idea and giveaway!

Today's bonus gift idea is Rescue Chocolate. In January 2010, Sarah Gross was walking her rescued pit bull, Mocha. She wanted to combine her two loves--dogs and chocolate--while making the world a better place. So she formed Rescue Chocolate--The Sweetest Way to Save a Life. The idea took off and continues to grow in popularity today.

All of the chocolates sold by Rescue Chocolate are dairy-free, vegan, and certified Kosher. Every month, they choose a far-reaching animal rescue organization, and a portion of the sale price from each chocolate bar goes to that organization. Past beneficiaries have included the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti, Farm Sanctuary, House Rabbit Society, and Pit Bull Rescue Central. (For a complete list of their past beneficiaries, go here.)

They have great flavors of chocolates, and all are named after important animal-rescue issues. For example, The Fix highlights the importance of spaying and neutering your pets, and Peanut Butter Pit Bull (their most popular flavor) is a counterpoint to the negative public image of pit bull-type dogs. Mission Feral Fig bars come with literature offering people humane options for managing feral cat colonies.

Rescue Chocolate sells 6 kinds of chocolate bars and 2 truffle collections. They also sell T-shirts, leashes, and gift collections combining chocolates and calendars. They also have gift certificates!
